Cleaning up in London
The UK’s largest cleaning event The Excel London Cleaning Show 2025 took place last month and Simon Jackson and Martin Ingham, from Lincoln Cleaning Technology, went along to find out about some of the latest innovations in the industry. With the UK’s cleaning industry valued at 60 billion pounds, this was an important occasion, which involved over 150 companies.
From robotics to sustainable solutions in the industry, the Cleaning Show is one of Europe’s leading events for cleaning and hygiene professionals and there was plenty to interest and inspire.
Delia Cannings, Chair of the British Cleaning Council, said:
“The Cleaning Show is a fabulous showcase for one of the UK’s biggest and most important sectors and the highlight of the cleaning and hygiene industry’s calendar.”
Here’s just a couple of new ideas, from the industrial cleaning world.
Zero compromise zero plastic
UK company Biovate Hygienics have announced the ground breaking launch of one of the world’s first plastic free paper bottles for commercial cleaning products. They have “a mission to drive sustainable change in all markets that use cleaning products. Their game changing Zero Compromise range features 500ml ultra concentrates of floor and wall degreasers and washroom and multi-purpose cleaners.” They also use “naturally derived bacteria, enzymes and plant-based actives for their primary cleaning power.”This sounds like great news for the oceans and for the planet. https://www.biovatehygienics.com/zero-compromise
Foul fatbergs
Fatbergs are huge, rock-like masses of fat, oil and grease that are causing havoc in our sewerage system. Fat, oil and grease builds up in the sewers to create monster fatbergs, some even reaching 60 metres in length. These fatbergs are very costly and difficult to remove. At the Cleaning Show, Miele, in partnership with McDonalds, presented their innovative machine washing cycle, which extracts and recovers the grease from the washing of cleaning cloths in their restaurants. This recovered grease is used in the production of vehicle biofuel, which helps to run McDonalds fleet of lorries, more sustainably. A clever solution to a sticky problem.
Battle of the squeegees: the Window Cleaning World Cup
Could you clean 3 windows in less than 10 seconds? Well, this was the challenge at the Window Cleaning World Cup, which took place at the Excel London Cleaning Show. Terry ‘Turbo’ Burrows has achieved this amazing feat of skill and expertise with a record breaking time of 9.14 seconds. Amazingly, no-one has beaten this Guiness World Record Holder in 29 years. Terry is having trouble beating his own record, and on ITV’s This Morning show he joked “I’m known as the Usain Bolt of window cleaners” and revealed the secret of his success is … practice. Check him out at https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/fastest-window-cleaner
This event invites cleaning professionals from across the globe to showcase their speed and precision for a £1000 cash prize. The record holder for the fastest female cleaner is held by none other than Terry’s daughter, Aliscia Burrows, who, last year, achieved a record breaking time of 16.13 seconds at the Manchester Cleaning Show. Clearly talent runs in the family.
